(CPDI) one day capacity building workshop on Leadership, Advocacy Skills, Citizen Report Card and Budget Tracking in Karachi.

A number of civil society organizations and citizens participated in a one day capacity building workshop on Leadership & Advocacy Skills, CitizenReport Card and Budget Tracking in District Karachi. The capacity building workshop was arranged by Center for Peace and Development Initiatives (CPDI)  under European Union funded project titled “Democratic local Governance for Development in Pakistan” jointly implemented by CPDI and Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF).

Provincial Coordinator CPDI, Ms. QuratulAine reiterated that capacity building workshop aimed at providing the participants with adequate knowledge on leadership and advocacy. This workshop would assist the participants to work on local governance and budget related issues. She further added that the training participants werealso facilitated on citizen report cards and budget tracking of government departments specifically health, education and water and sanitation.

Discussing the details of the training workshop Provincial coordinator Ms. Qurat ul aine  said that training workshop was divided into three parts; Leadership and Advocacy, Citizens Report Card and Budget Tracking.

Liaquat Rajper, one of the participants of workshop acknowledged the efforts of European Union and implementing project partners. He further added that such kind of initiatives will help to promote volunteerism at local level.

Ms. Samina Naz, Monitoring Officer CPDI said that DLG Pakistan which is a project funded by European Union, aims at creating awareness among CSOs and citizens to improve local governance. An alliance between CSOs and Citizens is formed that can be a driving force for the much needed governance reforms in the local government system to the citizens’ benefit.  DLG Pakistan is facilitating CSOs and Citizens to work together to raise their voices for the much needed governance reforms.

Participants of the training expressed; a positive change can only be expected in the local governance by developing the capacity of human resource. Participants also expressed their gratitude to the European Union which is funding the project for strengthening local governance in Karachi.
