Karachi is the metropolitan city of Pakistan, it is hub of Pakistan working for Karachi can bring change in whole Pakistan indeed! “IAMKARACHI” is much appreciated movement. Recently the JS auditorium at the IBA City Campus was packed to the rafters with eager students and dignitaries from Educational Institutes from all over Karachi to witness the launch of the IAK Karachi Dialogues and Awards. The event was moderated by Mr Ghazi Salahuddin and was joined by four esteemed panellists, Sibtain Naqvi, Wusatullah Khan, Baela Raza Jamil and RizwanJaffar. The event was also attended by Jameel Yusuf, indeed dialogues were well attended by media too.

The Dialogues initiative is an effort by the IAK movement to alleviate the misunderstandings the city harbours by promoting a better understanding of different perspectives and the complex socio-cultural fabric of Karachi by highlighting the importance of having dialogues. In a city that is affected by tragedies on the regular, tragedies begotten of misunderstanding and intolerance, this program is being used as a bridge between the different groups of people in this city, and trying to do away with miscommunication.

The event was moderated by Media Stalwart Mr Ghazi Salahuddin who guided his esteemed panellists Sibtain Naqvi, Wusatullah Khan, Baela Raza Jamil & Rizwan Jaffar through the topic for the day, “why is dialogue important?” The topic was chosen to communicate the essence of the entire program to the students, who then rounded off the event with a series of insightful questions towards the end.

“The reason we chose to hold the series of dialogues in universities is because we want to make sure that the academic youth of this country, the leaders of tomorrow, are given the opportunity to engage in discussions that celebrate diversity and build tolerance,” Mohsin Ali Leghari, Program Associate, I AM KARACHI.

The second initiative launched was the IAK Awards, designed to help people who have battled adversity to rise out of those occasions and use social work to inspire others. The launch was a platform to announce a call for nominations, leading to the process for nominations and selection for potential candidates, with details available on the website. According to the IAK team, the Awards initiative is not only a means to honour the Award winners but to give them opportunities and platforms to grow and prosper in their personal and professional lives.
